The nation's Officials Warn Trump Against Cross a Major 'Limit' Regarding Protest Interference Warnings
The former president has warned of involvement in Iran if its authorities harm protesters, prompting warnings from Iran's leadership that any US intervention would cross a “red line”.

In a public declaration on recently, the former president stated that if the country were to use deadly force against protesters, the America would “intervene on their behalf”. He further stated, “our response is imminent,” without explaining what that would involve in practice.
Protests Enter the Next Phase Against a Backdrop of Financial Turmoil
Public unrest are now in their second week, representing the largest since 2022. The current unrest were catalyzed by an unprecedented decline in the Iranian rial on recently, with its worth dropping to about 1.4m to the US dollar, further exacerbating an already beleaguered economy.
Multiple individuals have been confirmed dead, including a volunteer for the state-affiliated group. Recordings reportedly show law enforcement armed with shotguns, with the noise of discharges present in the video.
National Officials Issue Strong Rebukes
Addressing Trump’s threat, Ali Shamkhani, counselor for the country's highest authority, stated that internal matters were a “definitive boundary, not a subject for online provocations”.
“Any external involvement nearing Iran security on false pretenses will be severed with a swift consequence,” Shamkhani wrote.
Another leader, the secretary of Iran’s supreme national security council, accused the US and Israel of orchestrating the unrest, a frequent accusation by officials in response to protests.
“The US should understand that US intervention in this national affair will lead to turmoil in the whole region and the destruction of American interests,” the official wrote. “The American people must know that Trump is the one that began this escalation, and they should be concerned for the security of their troops.”
Context of Strain and Protest Nature
Iran has threatened to target American soldiers stationed in the Middle East in the past, and in recent months it attacked a facility in Qatar following the American attacks on Iranian nuclear enrichment sites.
The ongoing demonstrations have been centered in Tehran but have also reached other urban centers, such as Isfahan. Business owners have gone on strike in protest, and students have gathered on university grounds. Though financial hardship are the main issue, protesters have also chanted anti-government slogans and condemned what they said was failures by officials.
Presidential Approach Changes
The head of state, the president, initially invited representatives, taking a softer stance than authorities did during the earlier demonstrations, which were met with force. The president noted that he had directed the administration to listen to the demonstrators' core grievances.
The fatalities of protesters, however, may indicate that officials are adopting a tougher stance as they address the unrest as they continue. A statement from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps on Monday warned that it would take a harsh line against any external involvement or “unrest” in the country.
While Iranian authorities grapple with protests at home, it has sought to counter allegations from the US that it is rebuilding its nuclear programme. Iran has claimed that it is ceased such work domestically and has expressed it is open for negotiations with the international community.
