Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
