Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
