Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
